- ❤️ The Roaning Gene has been on obsession of mine for a few years now and we have been working really hard to bring it into our Miniature Cattle Breeding Program.  I love it on my cows and I also love it on my horses. Roan everything I say 😂. RCM Ruby gave us a beautiful Yellow Roan 87.5% Highland Heifer Calf on September 8th and this heifer is a really hard one for me to let go of.  We kept her half sister RCM Maple in 2023 and she is developing into an amazing animal we cannot wait to get our first calf out of in 2026, pushing the highland percentage even further to 93.75%.  We keep pushing and we keep trying for our roanies as I like to call them. 2025 will be an exciting year for our Roan Program with the introduction of our up and coming Red Roan Chondro Positive Bull RCM Rusty. - ❤️ When your heart girl RCM June Bug goes into labor, anxiety levels rise on the ranch! June Bug and I have been through so many calvings together, you’d think by now I’d just let her be and have some faith!  I’m so glad I never quit worrying because this precious little heifer was coming out backwards and had I not been there, she may not have survived. Sugar Baby is one of our oldest residents on the ranch at 15 years of age who came to us in 2015 as a 5 year old as my birthday present. She is one of the cows that started my whole obsession and love for cattle and raising these amazing animals.  This year Sugar Baby bred to Sterling gave us a very pretty and uniquely marked little dun heifer calf on September 18th who we will be retaining as a piece of Sugar Baby to forever have grazing our ranch.

On September the 4th, RCM Montrose our White Galloway gave birth to a beautiful boldly marked Highpark heifer, sired by RCM Mighty Warrior.  This heifer calf has some beautiful black tips, very docile disposition like her dam and she is polled - heterozygous. RCM Silver Sterlings first calf of the 2024 Fall Calving Season arrived on August the 20th and she is a gorgeous Silver Highland Heifer Calf!  Dam RCM Glow Girl is one proud mumma and always gives us stunning babies.  These two had to spend a week in the barn due to intense rain, thunderstorms and high winds but on release baby girl was all tail up and off she went full speed.  This beautiful heifer will be joining two of our Spring babies come weaning time.

On August 17th Luna gave birth to a perfectly marked tiny little Dun Belted Galloway Bull Calf and he is a spitting image of his sire RCM Maximus the Great, down to the white tip on his tail and hind feet hobby socks. This little fluff bucket of a highland bull calf was born on May 31st from one of our sweetest, kindest and oldest highland females RCM Red Sunset. Sunset came to us bred by an outside registered Yellow Highland Bull and this little bull calf did not disappoint. Born on May 10th, RCM Nicki gave us exactly what we had hoped for bred to RCM Silver Sterling - a Dun, White Faced Heifer Calf!  Coming from the commercial world of cattle, we have always loved the white faced baldy cattle so we were pretty excited mummas white face came through on this pretty little girl. Saving the Best for Last!  RCM Silver Mosely went into active labor on June 2nd, 1 hour before we were getting ready to run 90 head through the chute for stage 2 of our AI protocol. With all hands on deck we were able to safely pull this stunning little silver chondro highland bull calf out backwards and alive with little effort. Within a short 30 minutes Mosely prolapsed what we first thought was a vaginal prolapse.  On closer inspection it was an eversion of her BLADDER 🤦‍♀️. What are the chances ??? Very rare according to our vet who simply looked at me and said “Laura, only one of your cows could manage to pull this off and survive”.  At this point, we could write a book of all the random, rare and unusual medical scenarios we have seen with the cows and calves. I always say the universe sent these cows to me cause she knew I’d still save them all lol.  This bull calf sired by RCM Silver Sterling, is our best Silver Highland Bull Calf of the Season - he was worth the wait and he was worth the fight! Mosley and her little man are thriving and will be heading out to pasture after two more days of antibiotic and inflammatory treatment for Mosley, where they will join the rest of the 2024 RCM cow/calf pairs for the Summer.

Betty Sue gave birth on May 14th to a pretty little Dun Highland Heifer sired by RCM Ollie, half brother to RCM Silver Sterling. Betty Sue is a small framed Dun Highland Cow and this is the first heifer calf she has ever given us so we were pretty excited when we checked the sex. RCM Baby Doll gave us our first HighBeltPanda bull calf on May 23rd sired my RCM Silver Sterling and boy is he perfection.  We got a little bit of each 3 breeds in this bull calf. Sweet RCM Pandy gave birth on April 9th to her adorable Dun 75% Highland Bull Calf. Little man is sired by RCM Sterling and dun in color. Pandy is a farm favorite and loved by all who come to the ranch to visit the cows. She is the first to greet a stranger and would live in the house if we allowed her too.  RCM Silver Sterling does it again with another fabulous Silver Highland Heifer born on the ranch.  RCM Flower had a short and sweet labor on April 28th, 30 minutes from start to finish, presenting us with a beautiful smaller framed non chondro silver highland heifer with some incredible hair and compact frame. Always impresses me how quickly these mumma cows get their babies up and going in no time. Flower is a 2018 Small Framed White Highland Cow with a gentle and kind disposition which always reflects on her babies.  RCM Chewbucca is absolutely killing it this year giving us heifer calves on bull clean up and I’m loving every calf that hits the ground.  RCM Sweet Pea is one of our original whitepark females from back in 2017. Sweet Pea has blessed us with beautiful calves from the beginning and has helped us build our own herd from within. We over the years have retained two of Sweet Pea’s heifers, Sammie and Chloe and also a grand son RCM Bubba. We are loving these Silver Dun Highpark Babies this year coming from our Silver Highland Boys RCM Sterling and RCM Ollie.  This beautifully marked silver dun bull calf was born on April 22nd from our sweet whitepark cow RCM Pumpkin.  Pumpkin is homozygous polled so this bull calf will be heterozygous polled. We finished our weekend off with a pretty little White Chondro Highland Heifer from RCM Glimmer and RCM Silver Sterling.  Glimmer is the oldest highland cow on the ranch at roughly 15 years of age.  She is an old gem of a female with no teeth and the most beautiful set of horns. She is an old pro who never requires any assistant and if she could talk, I’m pretty sure she’d tell me to get the hell of here and let her do her thing.  Old gentle and experienced cows are simply the best to have around.  Baby girl is adorable, super tiny, a double dilute loaded with hair.

I’ve tried to be really patient waiting for this sweet heifers color test results to come back before posting her but here we are and I’m still set on her being a silver.  This pretty girl comes from one of my most favorite Highpark cows RCM Moon, a 75% Highland Highpark cow, making this heifer a 87.5% Highland percentage. She was born on April 13th, is champagne in color, non chondro and will be horned.  Sire is pending between RCM Silver Sterling and RCM Ollie, our Miniature Silver Highland half Brothers.

RCM Buttercup and RCM King Henry never disappoint us with their babies. Year after year we pair these two back up and ultimately they always give us a shortie bull, silver or dun.  This powerhouse of a bull calf was born on April the 15th and boy is he built thick and correct! The level of appreciation I have for a first time heifer who commits to labor and gets the job done is really high lol. Our pretty girl RCM Olathe gave birth on April 6th during a nasty Colorado Spring storm that blew in hard and side ways, giving us rain, hail and snow all in the same day.  This was our third and last calf of the day and I was so thankful all went according to Mother Natures Plan. Olathe got little man out and going in no time before I stepped in and got him blown out completely dry and settled into the barn for the cold night ahead with a full belly of colostrum.  This little 75% Highland x 25% WhitePark Bull Calf is a Yellow and suspected to be a brindle and chondro positive - both pending testing. Little Panda Man was born on April 15th and gosh isn’t he a cutie pie !  Dam RCM Rachel is a Lowline x Miniature Hereford giving this chondro bull calf some exceptionally small non chondro genetics. Sweet baby girl was born on May 4th after trying to come out upside down and backwards. She is one lucky little girl to be here with us today. Her Dam RCM Diva is a Dun Highbelt Cow with some phenomenal hair and markings. Sire is our boy RCM Rip, a Dun Miniature Highland Bull. Our first RCM Mighty Max calf has arrived and he is as tiny and precious as Max himself was at birth. This Dun Belted Galloway Bull Calf is sired by Max, our Micro Miniature Silver Belted Galloway Bull who has some deep roots here at RCM. Gracie our Midsized WhitePark loves to give us a solid colored calf one year, and a Highpark marked calf the other year.  A Silver Tipped 75% Highland Highpark Heifer was born ! And oh how excited I was. On April 2nd, RCM Blizzie gave birth to the cutest, fluffiest and whitest little heifer calf with silver tips, suspected chondro positive. Blizzie is a Dun Tipped Highpark Cow, daughter of RCM Aspen and the sire to this pretty girl is RCM Silver Sterling.  Both parents laid down the dilute gene on this cutie to produce her the silver tips which are hardly visible unless you get to really looking.  Baby girl is just darling and the first heifer calf Blizzie has given us.  RCM Fancy gave birth on March 29th at 1.30am.  My girl Fancy is a breath taking 3 year old Yellow Tipped White Galloway x Highland whom I purchased as a heifer calf. RCM Delta’s Highland heifer calf was born on March 28th and we are on the fence if she is a dun or a silver.  In 2023, Delta’s bull calf I was sure was a dun and hence sold him as a dun and later color tested him to find out he was in fact a silver, his new owners were thrilled lol. So this year we are color testing pre sale to confirm. I have a suspicion she is a silver as I’m learning certain colors throw different shades of silver when both parents aren’t silver, Delta is a yellow. This highland heifer calf is beautiful regardless of her color and is sure to make a phenomenal foundation breeding female just like her dam and half sister in our breeding program.

On March 29th some roan dreams annd vision arrived on the ranch!  RCM Ronnie gave birth to a beautifully colored chocolate heifer calf with a booty full of roan!  This show stopper of a heifer calf is sired by our boy RCM Black Chewbucca, a 45 inch midsized, non chondro Black Highland bull. Our break between AI and pasture breeding was short and sweet. Even though we waited 2 weeks to turn our bulls in after we AI’d, RCM Blondie gave us a little panda faced heifer calf on March 23rd.  Is she 9 days past AI or 9 days pre clean up? Sired by RCM Black Chewbucca, we are finding out that Chewbucca is a short gestation bull from other calving stats.  This little heifer calf is precious 💕 She is a smaller framed heifer calf, non chondro and horned and she has perfect little panda eye markings. I’m drawn to her white face from our years of raising commercial cattle and having white faced baldys which where always my favorite in the herd. Baby girl is a cutie patootie all the way.

Ember is a Chondro Positive, Red Brindle 87.5% Highland x 12.5% Dexter calf.  She has an incredibly thick and dense hair coat, deep and thick bodied and well balanced.  She has a very sweet, kind and willing dispositioned and has sailed through her handling  period with flying colors. Ember is broke to lead on the halter, broke to the cattle blower and just absolutely loves attention. RCM Candy and RCM Silver Sterling gave us a beautiful Yellow Highland Heifer on March 28th, one of our 7 heifers born within a 36 hour period.  Candy calved unassisted and is an excellent mother cow. She knows how to get her babies up and going fast!   Baby girl is sure to be a looker like her dam with her intense highland double hair coat and that base yellow color that can make you every color of the highland rainbow.
